New Paints

Hello!!!...and Happy New Year! Gee its sure been awhile since I've posted anything. Ha ha. Well having a baby, moving twice and taking care of 2 other kids and a husband, seems to take it's toll on my time.

Although I have not been idle in the art department. I've managed to paint a few new paintings over the last 8 months. I also had my art hanging up at a local tea shop and sold two paintings. That was awesome! Especially right before Christmas. Unfortunately for the tea shop they were not busy enough and closed down, so I'[m on the lookout for a new location. I prefer a venue where I can hang a few pieces rather than wait a year to be artist of the month. Perhaps one day when my inventory allows it, I will.

Lucky I took pictures of my painting progress for my last 3 pieces. I'm gonna start by posting my most recent one. If anyones interested in the others, I'll try to post them sooner than later.

So, here is my latest painting! I got new Golden Brand Acrylics at Christmas and just had to start right away. Enjoy!

I started by layering the background color all over the canvas. This is the color that will show through most of the way through and sorta gives the picture that "warm feeling" .

Next I Transferred the drawing over the background. Then I started filling in the trees and greenery. I want the background to be kinda fuzzy so the main subject stands out. That's tricky to do sometimes without making it look unfinished, so layering lightly is key.

Since my style just calls out for black lines, theres was nothing stopping me. Ha ha! I outlined the main subject (Columbine). This makes it easier to  see what I'm painting. I can now start working the background around the leaves easily.

Next...leaves and green. I painted white patches first so when I put the green over top it highlighted the middle of the leaves.

It's quite a jump here, but I had way to many progress photo's and only so much time to tell you about it.
In this one you can see I added more layer, light and dark to the background. Defining the leaves and trees. I also added shading and more details to the leaves and flowers. At this point I go in and out with light and darks. It's hard to keep progress on such erratic methods.

And finally, I outlined in black again. I added more shades of Violet int the petals. I added dewdrops and lines on the wild leaves. I dabbed yellow here and there. Some pink on the buds and light areas of the petals too.

This is not intended to be a tutorial. If you learn something or get an idea out of it, then great! Step by step instruction is out of the question. Although please feel free to ask me questions on colors or methods if your interested. Thanks for checking my art out.
